the James Blake mission

I was on a mission these past few days, trying to score a place to see James Blake live at Cité de la Musique, in Paris. Everything was sold out. And every time someone showed up saying they were selling their tickets, I was always too late and someone else got lucky instead.
In a desperate move, I posted on James Blake's page that I would trade my left kidney for a ticket for his gig...I even came up with a little parody of James Blake's Retrograde to help my cause, it went out a bit like this:

I'm on my own
No more places for the show
Few more hours to go
Don't let me miss this show
So be the girl/boy I'll love
Be the girl/boy I'll love
I'll wait
So show me you've got a ticket
Ignore everybody else
Sell it to me now

ahhh pathetic I know hahaha

However, surprisingly enough, it actually worked. A very kind-hearted soul replied saying that he had tickets to sell!
But that was 3am and I was already sleeping.
So the next morning, my friend called me at 10am so I woke up and checked my ipod for notifications and saw his message.
Needless to say I got so excited I replied him right away and he took a while to reply back. So I thought he had probably found someone else...which in fact he did, 'cause later he told me that he got more than 20 messages from people who saw his offer on James Blake's facebook page.
When he finally replied back, I was so happy and relieved to see that he chose to sell it to me. The price was more than ok, considering the demand.

I arrived at the venue and waited for him outside. Saw many people wanting to buy tickets for the show there...not sure they were successful, though... I would probably be doing the same thing if that guy hadn't replied me back.
And so I waited and waited and waited and began to feel a little bit worried that he wouldn't sell it to me anymore...
So when we finally met and he gave me the ticket and it looked legit, I felt like bear-hugging him, but I didn't. I thought that was too good to be true, so I really analysed the ticket to see if it could be counterfeited...the moment the door guy scanned my ticket and let me in, I was so happy and relieved I sighed so loudly the guy looked at me like I'm some crazy chick...

The venue wasn't filled  yet because James would play after Sohn. Good for me, I got a perfectly nice spot to sit. Yes, there were seats there, people sit there as if they were watching a classical piano concert or something, totally new experience. Which is fine by me, maybe not for the musicians, cause there isn't much interaction/reaction from the crowd.
James  himself said that we were looking like caged birds in our seats...

The concert was perfection, his voice flawless, the music was eargasmic. I was so glad that people shut up while he was singing, so I could hear his almightiful voice in all its nuances.
This is my first live concert in France, the French audience is certainly different from the hysterical, passionate, crazy Brazilian one that I'm familiar with.
Everytime he talked to the audience it was in English, he said some stuff that should've gotten a bit of reaction but I'm pretty sure that most people there couldn't understand it..(it's a funny relation, the Frenchies and the English language...) and those who understood it, chose to just laugh coyly.
Had it happened in Brazil, the crowd would have screamed at every word he'd speak...even though they wouldn't know a word he was saying (either because they don't know any English or because of all the screaming going on...most likely both). If he yelled 'I pooped my pants today!', the audience would go like WOOHOOOOOO YAAAAAY!!!

When he began to play Retrograde, two girls and a guy stood up and went towards the stage. As the security staff didn't remove them from there, people slowly began to do the same, including me. I would not miss the opportunity of getting close to the stage and seeing James Blake doing his magic only centimetres away.

And so the caged birds broke free after all :)

wasn't he close!
