Sweden, Stockholm
It was a nice train ride from Copenhagen to Stockholm. Plenty of pretty Swedish red houses with white borders on the way.
Of course I got lost on my way to try to find my hostel, but I was lucky enough to come across this very nice Swedish girl. I asked her if she knew where the blablablagatan was and she didn't know, but promptly pulled up her smartphone to check on google maps and eventually guided me through the right path. Saint Swedish girl, if god existed, you'd have a nice spot in heaven for being such a kind soul, but since s/he doesn't , please accept my eternal gratitude and acknowledgment instead.
Despite getting lost as soon as I arrived in Stockholm, because I never seem to find my way out of a paper bag, everything in the city is very well signalled. So much that I never got lost again :)
The hostel was really neat (and expensive, mind you!) and in a good location. I didn't like their no-shoes-inside policy, though. They had a sauna, which I obviously didn't make use of, as I don't see the point of feeling like a steamed potato. They had bikes to rent, which I unfortunately didn't have time to do. They had Macs for everyone to use for free. They had codes on their doors so you didn't have to worry about losing the keys. They had free pasta. They had you pay to rent their bed linen, because who the hell travels with bed linen!
Gamla Stan, the old town, is a must-go. It's really beautiful, but a bit crowded in the afternoon. It'd be a good idea to visit it during the morning hours 'cause it's not yet packed with crazy tourists.
The City Hall is an interesting building, with a gorgeous garden and a view to the rich part of the city, by the sea.
The Swedish beach I went to looked more like a river/lake, surrounded by trees, rocks, kayaking, ducks and grass, it looked more like a park rather than a beach.
But according to the internet, Smedsuddsvägen is a beach, but I think that FOR ONCE the internet could be wrong LOL
The Swedish language is so fucking adorable! Their entonation when speaking it is super endearing and cute!!!
Went to a Couchsurfing event at night and the bouncer of the bar asked for my ID when I tried to enter. I gave him my ID and he spent a minute analysing it. So I decided to show him my driver's licence and he spent another minute analysing it, as if they all were fake. Eventually he decided to let me in. Either he was doing that just to annoy me or he really thought I was younger than 18. WTF!
The joint was crowded and I started chatting with some people who decided to come chat with me, which eventually led me to meet this funny and cool guy who spoke Portuguese. We chatted for a while there until he got invited to another party by one of his Swedish friends and invited me to go with him. I said yes and off we went!
Every Wednesdays the people who volunteer to build this cultural house gather together after work to drink some beers, listen to music and just chill. Except for me and my new friend, there were only Swedes there. Ah, the Swedes! They were so friendly, cool and nice! I even got invited to a party on Saturday, but I would not be in Stockholm anymore :/ Lovely, lovely Swedes! <3
After the party, my new friend and I decided to wander the streets of Stockholm until the sunrise, to appreciate the city and also observe the nightlife, which was very lively. We walked through all the touristic spots and it was amazing because it was empty and calm. We took our time to just appreciate it.
But every 5 minutes someone would stop us on the street to either ask us if we wanted to take a cab or if we had cigarettes to give. No kidding! Every fucking 5 minutes!
We were trying to find a place to eat, but all we could find was McDo's. And let me tell you, the Swedish McDonald's is shit! Ok, ok, you may argue that all McDo's are shit, but this one was shittier than normal.
Anyway, we just sit there to eat our McShit and did some peoplewatching while we were at it. Very, very intriguing creatures all around. Seriously.
We also agreed that all the Swedish girls working at the McDo's counter would be very very successful models if they ever decided to move to Brazil haha
We then went to a bridge to watch the sunrise, but we were on the wrong side and were too tired to walk to the right one, but still it was beautiful. The Swedish sky is incredible. The clouds are fantastic and magical, the only thing lacking there was a flying unicorn. Someone should write a song about it.
I slept for 3 hours only because I would meet a Swedish guy in the morning. He was pretty cool, as most Swedes are, and showed me some really cool spots in Stockholm and provided me with very interesting information. My favourite place was what he called his favourite place, almost a hidden spot; where you have a wonderful view of the town.
I wish I had had the time to go for a bike ride through the streets of Stockholm, go for a boat ride, as well as do some kayaking.
All in all, I had a very intense short stay in Stockholm and had plenty of fun. I'm aware that I spent way to little time there to write about it properly, unfortunately. If hostels in Stockholm weren't so expensive, I would have probably spent more days there...But I'll definitely come back in the future!
